After all my mishaps with mechanics and the creation of "Dan's Mechanic Blacklist", I finally had a pleasant experience with one. One by the name of Don. I needed to get a new muffler which was obvious since I had to re-attach my rusty old one using some scrap wire. While I had it there I also wanted to get the struts checked out. Over the summer when I had my car at the VW dealership, they said that they couldn't do an alignment because the struts were shot and needed replacing. I declined and said I'd get them fixed next time. Well, I never returned to the VW dealership. And with a muffler in dire need of repair, I called Don's Garage. When I first talked to Don over the phone about what were going to do to my car, I mentioned the strut situation. He replied saying, "We'll check them out, but a lot of times they don't really need fixing, the place is just trying to get your money." This put me as ease, knowing that I couldn't possibly be swindled by someone who made such a statement. Talking to him later in the day, he was right. The struts were fine. All that needed replacement was the tire rod clip or something like that. (AKA: Much cheaper!) I was blown away by the honesty as well as the friendly atmosphere when I went in and picked up the car.
