Halfway House for 7th Grade Refugees
Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 9:35AM Last night I brought the Comcast production truck over to Caruso Middle School in Deerfield so the kids could tape some girls basketball games. It went rather well. After the set up, all I really had to do was sit and chill in the truck. Partway through the 2nd game, some kids came out to the truck. They said that they got kicked out of the school and were threatened with detentions if they didn't leave. They didn't have rides home until after the game and it was kinda cold to be hanging outside. (one kid was even in shorts) I felt bad for them, and decided to take them under my wing. The main part of the truck was already filled with video club kids, so I let the group of 4 refugees climb into the back of the truck where we store all the equipment. It was cramped, but at least it was warmer. This is when I realized that the truck also doubles as a halfway house for 7th grade refugees.
