Adventures in House Hunting
Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 6:08AM Over the past month, me and Colleen have been looking at houses. It's been quite an interesting and fun experience, with some disappointments along the way. We probably looked at about 30 houses, and here's what we found:
214 WOODLAND DR, ROUND LAKE BEACH
Bedrooms: 2
Bathrooms: 1
Garage: 1 Car
We found this house the first week looking and loved it. It was remodeled really nice on the inside. But, after thinking it though, we decided that the house was just too small. There was not much closet space and the stairway to the upstairs was angled in such a way that would make it impossible to get a queen size bed up there. As much as we loved the house, we decided against it.
1531 WALNUT DR, ROUND LAKE BEACH
Bedrooms: 4
Bathrooms: 1
Garage: 2 Car
We found this house the second week looking. It had lots of room including a full basement. The backyard was really cool. It had a canal running along one side of the property and a wood fence along the rest of the yard. This was the first house we put an offer on. We anxiously awaited a response, but the response was not good. Apparently, someone else had put down an offer on the same house the same night we did. It must have been a higher offer, because they ended up denying ours. We were disappointed. Colleen especially.
324 GRANDVIEW DR, ROUND LAKE PARK
Bedrooms: 3
Bathrooms: 1.5
Garage: 1 Car
We found this house the third week. The thing that really stood out about it was the cool spiral staircase that led to the second floor loft and 3rd bedroom. We put an offer in on the house, but it was denied. They said that they weren't going to budge on the price, and it seemed like the seller was unsure that they even wanted to sell the house anymore. We decided to let this house go.
533 ARBOR DR, ROUND LAKE PARK
Bedrooms: 3
Bathrooms: 1
Garage: 2 Car
We found this house the 4th week, the best one so far. It has all hardwood floors and plenty of room. A very nicely remodeled kitchen with new appliances. It has the biggest bathroom of all the ones we've looked at so far. (not a stupid pedestal sink!) Even though it was more expensive than the others we looked at, we thought this one was great and put down an offer right away. On Monday they accepted it! So as long as the house inspection goes well, it's ours! I'm so excited. I just want to move in right now.
Looking at houses was lots o fun. The hardest part was getting attached to a house, only to get it taken away. But I'm glad we found the one on Arbor Dr. So it all worked out.
