Cold Weather Killed My iPod
Friday, January 16, 2009 at 10:44AM When I use my iPod, 95% of the time it is when I'm driving. Much of the time, it gets left in my car. This has never been a problem...until yesterday.
The Chicagoland area saw temperatures plunging to -10 or lower. When going to work, I left my iPod in my car as I often do. When returning to my car many hours later, I started it up. This should have started up my docked iPod as well, continuing right where I left off on my downloaded podcast of "This American Life". But there was silence.
I imagined the hard drive on the inside of my iPod frozen into a solid block of ice. When the electricity hits it, it's like "Terminator" Arnold Schwarzenegger shooting a bullet at a frozen T-1000 and shattering into millions of pieces.
Hoping for the best, I figured it just needed to warm up. I brought it inside and charged it overnight. But it does not turn on, it does not do anything. I now have an iPaperweight.
